DSIP (Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide) is a nonapeptide composed of nine amino acids that was first isolated from rabbit blood in the late 1970s. Since then, DSIP has appeared in numerous basic neuroscience publications, among them animal models of EEG activity during sleep, of circadian rhythms, and of neuroendocrine and stress-associated regulatory circuits. Notably, the receptor and the precise mechanism of action of the peptide remain a matter of open discussion in the literature, which keeps DSIP an active subject of mechanistic studies. This work permits no conclusions about effects in humans.
