Neurocognitive Research

Neurocognitive research addresses signal transmission in the central nervous system: neurotrophic regulation, receptor binding at monoaminergic and peptidergic systems, synaptic plasticity, and the structuring of sleep and activity phases. Investigation takes place at the level of primary neuronal cultures, in brain slice preparations, and in preclinical behavioural and electrophysiological models. The substance classes collected here come from different origins: Semax is an ACTH(4-10) analogue used chiefly in models of neurotrophic factors; Selank derives from a tuftsin fragment and is described in the context of peptidergic anxiety models; DSIP is a nonapeptide that serves as a reference molecule in sleep physiology research. Methodologically decisive in this field is the choice of suitable model systems: a cell-based receptor assay answers different questions than a slice preparation or a behavioural paradigm, and the question of blood-brain barrier passage is represented differently depending on the model. Each batch is tested in our own laboratory by HPLC and UV/Vis spectroscopy, and the batch-specific certificate of analysis can be viewed before purchase – the COA Guide explains how to read it.
