AHK-Cu at a glance

AHK-Cu denotes the complex formed by the tripeptide L-alanyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine (AHK) and a copper(II) ion; as with GHK-Cu, the metal is bound through the histidine residue. The scientific literature on AHK-Cu comes largely from in vitro work on skin and hair biology: cell culture studies describe the complex in dermal papilla cells of the hair follicle and in human fibroblasts, with a focus on cell proliferation and the expression of growth factors such as VEGF. Copper peptides in general are also established model systems for studying cellular copper transport. These findings are basic research and do not support any conclusions about effects in humans.
