KPV at a glance

KPV is a tripeptide made up of the amino acids lysine, proline and valine and corresponds to the C-terminal fragment (positions 11–13) of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH). In the research literature, KPV is described above all in cell culture and animal models, for example in work on inflammatory signalling pathways, on intestinal epithelial cells and on keratinocytes. Because of its small size and well-characterised sequence, the molecule serves in many laboratories as a straightforward model peptide for mechanistic questions. All of the work mentioned is basic research and carries no implications for use in humans.
