AHK-Cu is a copper peptide complex consisting of the tripeptide alanine-histidine-lysine (AHK) and a divalent copper ion. As with the better-known GHK-Cu, the histidine residue mediates the complexation of the copper. In the research literature, AHK-Cu is described mainly in in vitro models of skin and hair biology: published cell culture studies examine the complex in dermal papilla cells of hair follicles and in fibroblast cultures, frequently in connection with questions of cell proliferation and growth factor expression. These laboratory findings are basic research and do not support any conclusions about effects in humans.
