DSIP (Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide) is a nonapeptide of nine amino acids that was first isolated and described in 1977 by the research group around Schoenenberger and Monnier, working with venous blood from rabbits. DSIP has been studied in basic neuroscience ever since, among other things in animal models of sleep EEG activity, of circadian rhythms, and of stress-related and neuroendocrine regulatory circuits. The physiological role of the peptide has still not been conclusively established in the literature, which makes it an interesting subject for mechanistic studies. No statements about effects in humans can be derived from this.
